| Quercus marks 50 Cent’s harassing novel Posted: 06 Sep 2011 07:58 AM PDT 50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson), who has sold over 22 million albums worldwide and has 11 Grammy nominations to his name, said he wanted to write the book to explore "how a kid becomes a bully" and has drawn on events from his own childhood and adolescence for the novel. "This book would have been very helpful for me growing up and now that I have a teenage son, it is my goal that this will have a positive influence on all teenagers," he said. Heycock called Playground "a powerful and ultimately uplifting book about the choices kids face growing up," saying: "We were struck by how subtle and honest the book was and how 50 Cent speaks to readers who might not always feel their experiences are being written about." She predicted a "diverse readership" for the novel. |

The actor was in Madrid this week to present Almodovar's 18th film, in which he plays brilliant plastic surgeon and psychopath Robert Ledgard, who is haunted by his wife's and daughter's suicides. The film, a futuristic thriller with touches of surrealist and Almodovarian humor that premiered at Cannes in May, tells the story of Vera, a beautiful woman held captive and under observation at the surgeon's home. "What Ledgard aims to do goes beyond a thirst for revenge. He's a man who tries to play God," Banderas said. The actor vehemently denied any disagreements with the filmmaker, who "discovered" him in 1982 with "Laberinto de pasiones" (Labyrinth of Passions) and also cast him in the 1986 film "Matador" and his two subsequent films "La ley del deseo" (Law of Desire) and "Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios" (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown). "Pedro's like that. He generates extreme opinions, either you love him or hate him, either you'll celebrate (the film) or think it's impudent," Banderas said, adding that he has no details on a English-language project that Almodovar might be preparing. "But if there's a character for me, I'll be there for Pedro. He just has to whistle." |

That, of course, is in addition to her Don't You Wanna Stay duet with country singer Jason Aldean, which is still on the AC charts and continues to get spins across several other formats. Over on USA TODAY's Country chart, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood's Remind Me slips to No. 2 there, though it's still the week's most-played song featuring an Idol act. Her album drop the 20th of this month make sure u get it (sic)," Timbaland tweeted on Sunday. He has worked with everyone from Justin Timberlake to Missy Elliot, and almost all of his songs have been huge hits. A lot of people are thinking that Demi's new album is going to be a bunch of empowering ballads. However, Timbaland is known for "dropping beats" and he is definitely good at making catchy dance tracks. Of course Unbroken will feature a few slow songs, but you can bet that Demi will have at least one really good upbeat song on there as well. Since dance-pop has become a very popular genre, Demi would be smart to follow that trend. Her gal pal Selena Gomez had great success with her latest album, and a lot of the tracks are very upbeat. Hopefully Demi went for it! |

Captured through the lens of Mario Testino, a Parisian love story between Watson and male model Cyril Descours is at the center of this ad for the label follow-up to the iconic Trésor fragrance. "What I love about this story that we put together is that it's almost fate, like chance, that brings the two of them together," the star – who has previously lent her face to eco fashion brand People Tree and Italian designer Alberta Ferretti – said in a previous teaser video. "You never know what's going to be around the corner. That's what we wanted to get across in the fragrance: that life is magical with little surprises." Kate Winslet, the star of Lancôme's Trésor ads, was recently replaced by fellow actress Penelope Cruz. The new campaign, also shot by Testino at the Hotel Crillon in Paris, is set to launch later this year. |

Quercus has bought a children's book by US rapper 50 Cent. Playground, for the 12-plus age group, is a semi-autobiographical novel on the subject of schoolyard bullying. Children's editorial director Roison Heycock bought UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) at auction from Helen Boomer of the Penguin Young Readers Group in the US. The book will be published on 3rd November, alongside the rapper's latest album.
Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, star of countryman Pedro Almodovar's latest film "La piel que habito" (The Skin I Live In), said it will take audiences at least 20 years to fully appreciate the drama/thriller, or roughly the same amount of time they needed to assimilate his films of the 1980s.
